What Counts as Proof That a Yono Game Requires KYC?
Short answer: the only proof that a Yono game requires KYC is the app's own terms of service or privacy policy saying so, quoted and dated. What other apps usually do, what an agent tells you, or a pop-up asking for your Aadhaar is not proof. And no genuine KYC process asks you to send documents over Telegram or WhatsApp.
"KYC Required" vs "KYC Mentioned"
These are different claims, and mixing them up causes confusion.
- KYC mentioned: the app's pages refer to identity checks somewhere, for example "we may verify your identity". That tells you verification is possible, not that it is required or when.
- KYC required: the app's own terms clearly state that identity verification is needed, and at what point, for example before any withdrawal.
On All Yono India, the KYC field can only move to "Confirmed" when the app's own terms or privacy policy state the requirement, and we quote the wording with the date we read it.
The KYC Evidence Ladder
| Level | Evidence | How we treat it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Weakest | "Most rummy apps need KYC", or what similar apps do | Not evidence about this app. Never used. |
| 2 | An agent or support chat says KYC is needed | A claim. Also a common scam opening. |
| 3 | A KYC screen seen inside the app by another user | Unverified. Can support "Mixed / Unclear". |
| 4. Strongest | The app's own terms or privacy policy state the requirement, quoted and dated | Can support "Confirmed". |
Fake KYC Scams to Watch For
"Complete your KYC" is one of the most common scam messages in India. Warning signs:
- Someone asks you to send Aadhaar, PAN, or bank photos on Telegram, WhatsApp, or email.
- You are told to install a "KYC app" or screen-sharing app.
- You are asked for an OTP to "confirm" KYC.
- You are told a stuck withdrawal will be released if you pay a KYC or "verification" fee.
A genuine identity check happens inside the app's own screens. If you have already shared documents or money, call 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
Why KYC Does Not Make an App Legal
Some apps present KYC as a sign that they are "regulated" or "legal". It is neither. Asking for identity documents does not change how Indian law treats a game. Under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, online money games are prohibited whether they are based on skill, chance, or both. Read our legal status guide for the details.
Where the KYC Status Stands Today
On 28 September 2026 we checked the download sites of all 56 apps in our directory for a terms of service or privacy policy. None of them publishes either document. Some sites link to "privacy" or "terms" pages that only reload the download page. That means no app's KYC requirement can be confirmed from its own documents, so every KYC field stays "Not Yet Reviewed", and each game page now records the check and its date. For users, an app with no published terms gives you nothing to rely on if a withdrawal or a KYC request goes wrong.
